Goodwood 2019

Mika tu parles correctement l'Anglais  ?

"We booked tickets for the first 2 days of the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2017 months in advance of the meet. Not general admission tickets but the 'treat' of a lifetime as £1381.77 of 'Hospitality'. As we live in Australia, we selected the option of ticking the box ‘for collection’ at the circuit. The day before the event we rang the Goodwood Office and all was not well. They couldn't understand why we didn't already have tickets. After explanations and several phone calls, all was seemingly sorted out. Sadly not. The first hour of the first day was spent trying to get into the circuit. Once we finally did arrive at our destination of the 'Hill Pavilion' it was fine and many apologies were forthcoming from the hospitality staff there citing 'teething problems' (after 24 years?). Naturally, our primary concern was that we didn't have the same difficulty the next day at the much anticipate 'Cedar Lawn', the most expensive of our days at £400 each. We were told there would be no issues this time and gave us the tickets and instructions to give us confidence in a memorable day to come. Go to 'Carpark A West' they said. We followed the ‘A’ signs and once reaching what we thought was our destination we were told this was the 'Disabled Carpark'. Later we were informed it is both but apparently no one at the carpark knew that. To quote one attendant there, "no one tells us anything". We thought we were lost, so the offer to drive us to a ticket gate by a volunteer (who had never heard of Cedar Lawn) was gladly accepted. Once there our tickets into the venue didn't work AGAIN. Over an hour later we finally made it to the venerated 'Cedar Lawn', where worse was to come. The reason for our selection of this venue was position, close to the carpark (we had to leave before the end of events to fly out of Gatwick) and, to quote from the marketing hype "Take front row seats in a private grandstand at the Start Line to smell and hear clouds of smoke and tyre shredding burnouts, as the largest variety of cars and bikes in the world accelerate away". This 'private grandstand' was not even close to the startline. In fact it wasn't even close to the 'tyre warming area'. Furthermore, it wasn't on ANY map. The closest we got to the “clouds of smoke and tyre shredding burnouts“ was when an F 1 car caught fire 50 meters away and the smoke blew down to us! From our 'prized' position, we had to hope they would start up a vehicle (rather than push it toward the startline) so we could hear it!!! The only other thing we got was a bit of breakfast and some lunch but we could have sat at the bar all day where we could watched the event on television! Other than these facilities 'Cedar Lawn' provided nothing more that general admission and a whole lot less than a grandstand pass. To say we were utterly devastated by our experience does not come close. This is not an 'ambush attack'. I didn't wait to come home and complain, I went in search of the people from the Hill Pavilion who I had direct discussions with the day before to acquaint them with my ‘hospitality experience’. Seeing how upset I was they had the ‘Hospitality Sales & Events Manager’ come see me. Polite, seemingly efficient and sincerely offering to make good, Mark gave me his card and said write it all up and email it to him. I did, as a chronological account complete with evidence. The response was "Thank you for your Comprehensive account on your visit. As I would like to respond and acknowledge all the failings and points made I require a small amount of time as we are about to enter into Revival next week. I propose I will be in touch by the 25th September as this will give me time to respond and answer in the correct manner". It’s now mid-November and I still don’t have a response. I won't hold my breath or tongue any longer! (Also, a very negative response to their survey gets no follow up either). Interestingly, 'Cedar Lawn' is no longer offered it is now the 'Startline Club', is £150 cheaper (no open bar) but the 'private grandstand' is still ‘private’ by its absence on maps. My advice for anyone considering a package, choose wisely and verify what you are been offered, otherwise go grandstand or general admission ticket. As one attendant at Cedar Lawn said, it was not really for motoring enthusiasts it was a venue for doing business."
