BTW, did you reach the airbag control unit by removing the Bose NIT, or not yet?

@Mike051 Not yet,  ran into a galled thread in an awkward spot..need a plan to attack it.

 

Bought a lift (quickjack 6000 elx) that is a perfect fit for the 612 and changed my alternator last week.  The cost of the lift and the denso cross referenced alternator (from Niermann in Germany) was the same as the dealer quote for the alternator and install.

 

Nearly 1000 kms on the new alternator over the weekend and so far so good.

Some new front pads for the ccm brakes...this is the first change.  Not bad longevity (17 yrs, 160,000 km). The top photo is the most worn pad, it is much worse than the rest due to a stuck piston on its caliper.

Next little 160,000 km project...front tie rods.  Not much pitting...just a bit too much play in the joint. New ends are from Hill Engineering.

 

Next week is rear wheel bearings...too much play, thankfully no noise yet.

 

And then it is the rear suspension, refurbed control arms top and bottom ( cleaned, powdercoated, new ball joint, new flanblocs)

 

After 17 years and 160,000 kms i can only say well done to the oem parts.

I do what i think is reasonable with the tools and knowledge I have.  I am fortunate that I have a large garage, a diagnostic tool with ferrari software, and a quickjack 6000 elx to make things easier.

 

So alternator yes, brake job yes, change the oil/oil filters/pollen filter/air intake filter yes, tie rods yes, rear wheel bearings - NO.

Brake pads change is very easy to do (an article in the blog section is available) but it can be harder for the stuck pistons… How did you do that? Just by adding some WD-40? Sometimes, it needs high pressure on them to put them off the caliper, with special tools. Hill Engineering sells new pistons by the way for Brembo calipers.

The 612 is relatively sensible to all these changes (Tie-rods, bearings…). I don’t know the name in english but a good « geometry » setup will be necessary after that I guess.

The pistons were a complete pain in the ass.  Centre piston on both the inside and outside of the right hand caliper seized.  Lots of penetrating oil, lots of patience, and enormous pressure from...

And now for the refurbished rear control arms, ball joints, flanblocs, spherical tie rods...

 

Ball joints and Flanblocs are from Prekom, spherical tie rods are OEM, blasting/powdercoating and fitting the parts together (i.e. the rebuild) was done by 9werk in Denmark.  They are currently preparing a front suspension for me as well.

 

This is all being done on a parts exchange basis so the downtime should be just the installation time.

Busy 160,000 km refresh at the car "spa" yesterday.  Rear bearings, wishbones, ball joints, flanblocs, tie rods, parking brake shoes all replaced.

 

Nothing was on the verge of a catastrophic failure but the bearings and ball joints had seen better days.  Parking brake shoes were very worn.

 

We will do the front in the coming months once all the parts are available.
